Chapter 1: What is dharma?
Your dharma is your soul’s purpose.
According to a January 2021 Pew Research Center survey of 715 unemployed or temporarily laid off adults in the United States who are looking for work, 66 percent said they have seriously considered changing careers completely.
And that makes a lot of sense. While it can be presumed that many folks are interested in a career shift in order to find a sustainable work period, especially after being laid off amid the pandemic, some may be considering the prospect of making a career change to live more in alignment with their purpose.
With this in mind, the concept of living your purpose—known in Sanskrit as your dharma, which has roots in multiple religions, including Hinduism and Buddhism.
“Your dharma is not a career, or a project, or a certain role you play. It’s the unique vibration that your soul carries to everything that you do and every way that you are.”
Your sacred doing is when you’re doing and being merged. There is no longer any separation between the two. The writer becomes the words, the yogi becomes the asana, the artist becomes the painting, the practitioner and the practice merge as one. There is no forcing, coercing, or even a need to “motivate.”

Chapter 2: Dharma vs Karma
Your dharma is your big why, the reason you’re here with all these thoughts, needs, and desires. We were each born with a unique purpose and this human experience is about remembering ours.
I’m sure you and I have heard all about karma, and how what we sow is what we reap. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Karma is our lady in red in the Matrix. It’s the universe’s way of saying you’ve gone off course!
Dharma is your divine purpose – it’s what your energy was destined to be channeled into.
Karma is the universe’s way of telling you when you stray from the path of your dharma.
When you’re on your dharma path, your karma reaps the benefits for you. You glow from within, fulfilled and happy.

Chapter 3: How to Find Your Dharma
The journey to find your dharma is like climbing a mountain. You’ve never climbed a mountain before and you don’t even know what the path looks like. You’re afraid and feel lost.
But the longer you remain where you are, the more uncomfortable this stagnancy feels. So you begin hiking, foot-by-foot.
According to Sahara, the first step is realizing that it’s not something outside of you but rather something you remember. “You were born with your purpose,” she says. “It’s just that we’ve forgotten.

Chapter 4: Types Of Dharma
We all have a purpose but we don’t all get to it in the same ways. In my own journey and through interviewing thousands of people who have discovered their purpose, I break down the four types of dharma as part of my book, Discover Your Dharma. I’ll tell you more about it soon in this guide. You can order your copy too.
So the four types are:
- You are born with a gift, like an incredible voice, artistic skills, etc. The gift was given to you but it’s up to you as to what you decide to do with it. Some of the best musicians aren’t even playing, not because they’re less talented, but because they did not chase their Dharmas the way that others did.
- You have a break-down, and in the state of falling out, when suddenly you have a realization. From this point onwards, you take radical responsibility for your life and transform your worldview with a newfound sense of Purpose to share your realizations with others. Your pain becomes your Purpose, and your mess becomes your message.
- You had a need and now are solving it, but you later you realize others also have the same need and you use your discovery to help others. If you have an issue, chances are someone else does too, and they’d love to know your approach to solving it.
- People around you needed something and you found the solution. You don’t have to personally have gone through the issue to want to be part of the solution, but your solution serves a greater need.
You may have a combination of two, maybe even three.

It’s a sign you’re on the path of discovering your dharma.
Confusion is necessary before clarity because it’s in that process you find your truth.
