Use this DIY turmeric yogurt mask to heal, brighten & enhance your skin

Turmeric is all the rage in Ayurveda, Middle Eastern, and South Asian countries. It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, healing the skin from within.

This powerhouse spice does it all – it brightens dark spots, fights acne, clears blackheads, and even heals eczema and psoriasis. On top of that, it’s Botox in a bottle, without the harmful chemicals. Turmeric diminishes wrinkles, hydrates skin, and improves skin’s elasticity. Even if you are young, your anti-aging regimen should start today!

When paired with yogurt and honey, its benefits are even more miraculous.

Yogurt also clears and brightens the skin. Its probiotics properties help your body get rid of bad bacteria causing acne. The lactic acid naturally exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells that keep your skin dull. Its zinc reduces sun spots and acne scars. In fact, Cleopatra (who I really connect to) used to bathe in yogurt for beautiful radiant skin.

Now raw honey is the last step to bring in the magic. Honey is extremely hydrating and nourishing for the skin. This keeps your skin moisturized with all the deep exfoliating and cleansing. At the same time, it is also antibacterial so unlike many other moisturizers, it does not feed acne but rather battles it. It works for any type of skin and also has antioxidant properties.

I only recommend raw honey because it is honey in its true form. Pasteurized honey has no medicinal benefits and is simply sugar, which will make acne worse. Honey should be creamy, not liquidy. Most of the honey you see in supermarkets and restaurants is pasteurized honey. Real raw honey will have a label (and be a little pricier.)

So pair these three together and you have some serious magic!

How to make the Turmeric Yogurt Mask:

What You Need:

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened plain organic yogurt (I used Greek)
  • 1-2 tsp turmeric (1 for lighter skin, 2 for tanner skin)
  • 1 tsp raw honey

Directions:

  1. Combine ingredients in a bowl. You can make a little more or less, depending on if you want to save some for later.
  2. Mix it up and massage it into your face, in circular motions. Let the mask sit on about 15 minutes and wash off with warm water. I suggest taking a shower after because it can get messy and turmeric can temporarily stain sinks so the shower is the best option.
  3. Enjoy your hydrated, brightened skin! I suggest doing this mask once a week to keep skin healthy.

Note: Turmeric can temporarily make your skin look orange so do this on a day you plan on staying in, i.e. not right before your wedding day or red carpet event. Some people with very light skin may have the staining more so I suggest only 1 tsp of turmeric for them. If you have blonde hair, avoid your eyebrows. I personally have never had any problems with staining but then again I have brown skin so know your own complexion.
