3 Necessities I Won’t Leave Home Without

Originally published in Yogi Approved.

As the author of The Idiot’s Guide to Ayurveda, I’m all about maintaining balance no matter what life throws my way. It’s easy to stay balanced when you’re in the comfort of your own home, but when you’re on the road, things get a little trickier.

After a month-long trip to Europe for my 31 Day Transformation Challenge with Deepak Chopra, I’ve pinpointed the three things that helped me maintain balance most while on-the-go.

These three things are super easy and accessible for most everyone, and they can help you maintain a sense of grounding and balance wherever life’s adventures take you next.

Here are 3 necessities I never leave home without (and you shouldn’t either):

As an author and Ayurveda expert, these are my three simple recommendations that can help you be healthier, happier, and more free to focus your energy on what matters.

1. Coconut Oil On-the-Go

If you’re a YogiApproved reader, you probably already know about the million and one things coconut oil is useful for.

I always keep a travel-sized tube of coconut oil with me for healing dry skin during long flights or amping up my matcha latte with hormone-and-blood-sugar-balancing healthy fats.

I use coconut oil dispenser bottles so I can reuse them in place of individual plastic packets (which make a great back-up when you travel). I love doing an Ayurvedic practice called abhyanga self-oil massage.

2. Water with Spices

I always customize my own Ayurvedic blends according to what season it is and what my body needs.

In the hot summer months, I add fennel seeds and/or coriander to cool the body. In the colder, winter months, I add warming ingredients like ginger, cinnamon and cumin. Throughout the year, I add turmeric for anti-inflammatory benefits. Spices have a wide range of medicinal benefits and there are tons of recipes in The Idiot’s Guide to Ayurveda.

3. Headphones and a Good Podcast

If we used all the idle time we have waiting in lines, traffic, etc., we could listen to all the books and podcasts in the world! As a total Saraswati (goddess of knowledge), I love using every spare moment to learn something new or seek inspiration.

I actually began my own podcast, the Highest Self Podcast, and it’s all about helping yogis become their most evolved selves, find their callings and share their gifts with this planet! It’s incredible the things we are capable of if we just set an intention and follow through.
